1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 level teaspoon baking soda
1 level teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
extra sugar
Recipe
Sift flour, baking soda, cream of tarter and salt together and set aside.
Cream shortening, butter, sugars, egg and vanilla in a medium bowl until light and fluffy.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mix and mix until blended.
Refrigerate dough for 1 hour for easier handling.
Preheat oven to 400.
Shape dough into balls the size of large marbles.
Dip one half of the ball into water, then into the extra sugar.
Place sugar side up on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 6 minutes.
Cool.
Makes 4 dozen.
