Hermit Cookies are from an old-fashioned recipe.

bar - Hermit Cookies
2 cups raisins
cold water
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a
13x9x2 inch baking pan.
Cover raisins with cold water and simmer 15 mins.
Drain and let cool. Cream sugar with margarine.
Stir in eggs, one at a time.
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon,
cloves, and nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture. Stir
in raisins and nuts. Pour into baking panand bake
for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
