    drop - Gram's Molasses Cookies

    Beat together:
    4 cups white sugar
    2 cups shortening
    3 - 4 eggs

    Into the 1st mixture blend:
    1/2 cup sorghums molasses
    ...(instructions ready only use this kind of molasses)
    1/2 cup water

    Stir these dry ingredients together:
    2 tablespoons baking soda
    1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon vanilla (add vanilla last)
    9 1/2 cups flour

    Then add to the wet mixture.
    Place drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking
    sheet. Flatten with the bottom of floured glass.
    Spread egg yolk mixed with milk on top of cookies.
    Bake at 350 degrees F. for 8 - 10 minutes.
