drop - Holiday Cookie Jewels
1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup sour milk or (1/4 cup milk plus
...3/4 teapsoon vinegar, let stand 5 minutes)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup finely chopped apple
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans, optional
1 cup coarsely chopped dates, optional
1 cup chopped red and green candied cherries, optional
confectioners sugar, optional
Heat oven to 400. Grease baking sheet.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.
Cream Crisco and brown sugar in large bowl at medium
speed of electric mixer.
Beat in egg, then milk and vanilla.
Stir flour mix into creamed mixture.
Add fruits and nuts.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet.
Bake for 7 - 8 minutes. Remove to cooling racks.
Dust warm cookies with confectioners sugar if desired.
