This recipe is less than 10 years old, but I've made
them and they're really good--especially for those
who don't like their cookies too sweet.


List of Ingredients




drop - Spicy Applesauce Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup chopped nuts or raisins

Preheat oven to 375º. Cream the shortening and brown
sugar. Add the beaten egg. In separate bowl mix
together the dry ingredients and then alternating with
the applesauce gradually add to the shortening mixture.
Add the nuts/raisins. Drop by tsps onto a greased
cookie sheet 2" apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until
firm and slightly browned.
Makes about 4 dozen.
