Recipe Introduction
The secret for making crisp bread and butter pickles is to be sure and slice all vegetables very thin and DO NOT over cook.
List of Ingredients
Bread + Butter Pickles #2, crisp
medium cucumbers -- washed, thinly sliced, enough to make 1 gallon
1 quart sliced onions, sliced thin
1 small bunch thinly sliced celery, or 1 tbsp. celery seed
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. turmeric
3 c. white granulated sugar
3 c. white vinegar
Cover the cucumbers with cold water and a handful of canning salt.
Stir and let stand for 2 hours.
Drain off salt water, rinse well; and drain very well.
Combine the cucumbers, onions, celery, cinnamon, ginger, salt, pepper, turmeric, sugar, and vinegar together.
Bring to a boil and boil only for 10 minutes.
Fill clean/sterile jars and seal.
