Strawberry Cream Dessert

List of Ingredients
4 c. (1 qt.) sliced strawberries, set aside 1 c.
2/3c. and 1/3 c. water
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
8 Twinkies. sliced in half, lengthwise
...(may substitute angel food cake pieces)
1 8oz. pkg. softened cream cheese
1/2 c. milk
1 12oz. bowl frozen whipped topping, thawed
Recipe
Mix the 1 c. of strawberries, the sugar and the 2/3 c. of water in a large saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes.
Add the cornstarch to the remaining 1/3 c. of water and stir to make sure there are no lumps.
Add the cornstarch mixture to the cooked strawberries, stirring constantly until thick and clear.
Remove from the heat to let cool slightly.
Add all the remaining strawberries to the mixture and stir l i g h t l y to cover. Set aside.
Place the Twinkies, filling side up, in a single layer, in the bottom of a 9x13x2" baking dish.
Beat the cream cheese and milk together until smooth.
Fold in the whipped topping, and spread the mixture over the Twinkies.
Spoon the strawberries over top of the cream mixture.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until ready to use.
Makes 18 servings.
