Recipe Introduction
I heard that this is eaten on New Years day.
List of Ingredients
Canadian Meat Pie
1 1/2 pounds minced pork meat
1 medium grated onion
1 minced garlic clove
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup mashed potatoes
Combine all the ingredients, except the potatoes, in frying pan.
Cook, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
Add the mashed potatoes, mix well, and chill.
Spread the mixture into a pie crust.
Cover top with crust dough and seal edges.
Bake at 425 for 30 minutes.

Pork Tourtiere (Pie)
1 1/2 pounds ground lean pork
1/2 cup white wine or water
1 finely chopped medium onion
1 - 3 finely chopped garlic cloves
1 teaspoon celery seeds
1/2 teaspoon dried sage
pinch ground cloves
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
3 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
2 crusts for a 9 inch pie
Combine all ingredients except the potatoes and crust
in a large saucepan over a medium heat.
Cook until the meat is lightly browned.
Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
Stir in the potatoes and let cool.
Line the pie plate with one crust.
Fill with the cooled pork mixture.
Top with the other crust and crimp the edges.
Cut 2 or 3 vents in the top of the pie.
Bake in a preheated 450 oven for 10 minutes.
Reduce the heat to 350 and bake an additional 30
minutes.
One pie serves 6 to 8.
