Pennsylvania Dutch - Wet Bottom Shoo Fly Pie

2/3 cup whitegranulate or packed brown sugar, your choice
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons softened butter
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, (1 is more, 1 1/2 is less, moist)
1 cup hot water
1 cup molasses
1 slightly beaten egg
1, 9 inch, unbaked, pie crust
Recipe
Preheat oven to 400.
Combine the sugar, flour, and butter together until crumbly. Remove
1/2 cup, and set aside. Dissolve baking soda in the hot water. Set aside.
Mix the remaining crumbs with the molasses and egg. Add the soda
water and blend well. Pour into crust and sprinkle with the 1/2 cup
crumbs. Bake for 10 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350 and bake for
25 to 30 minutes, until top is lightly browned.
