    Baked Ziti #3, w/ground beef

    for sauce:
    2 Tablespoons salad oil
    1 medium onion, diced
    1 medium garlic clove, minced
    2, 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
    1, 12 ounce can tomato paste
    2 teaspoons brown sugar
    2 Tablespoons chopped parsley
    1 teaspoon oregano
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1 bay leaf
    for the ziti part:
    1 pound ground beef
    1, 15 ounce container Ricotta cheese
    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1, 8 ounce package shredded Mozzarella cheese

    for sauce:
    In sauce pan over medium heat, in hot oil, cook onions and garlic
    until tender, about 10 minutes.
    Add tomato sauce and remaining ingredients.
    Over high heat, heat to boiling.
    Reduce heat to medium/low and cook 30 minutes.
    Discard bay leaf.

    for the ziti part:
    Coat a 9 x 13 x 2 baking pan with Crisco shortening.
    Prepare ziti pasta al dente to package directions; drain. Set aside.
    Cook ground beef until browned.
    Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
    Remove from heat; stir in Ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley,
    egg, salt and pepper.
    Pour in 1/2 of sauce; stir until well mixed.
    Add ziti and toss gently to coat well.
    Pour or spoon mixture into the baking pan.
    Pour remaining sauce evenly over top.
    Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese and bake for at least 20 minutes.
