Vanilla Pie #2

you will need
4 unbaked pie crusts

1st part - syrup:
1 cup molasses or maple syrup
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups hot water
1 egg, beaten

2nd part - batter:
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup lard
1 egg
1 cup sour milk or cream
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder

Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
Mix 2nd part like you would mix a cake.
Divide batter into 4 unbaked pie crusts.
Pour syrup over the batter.
Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to
350 degrees F. and bake until done.
Cake will rise to top during baking.
