    donuts - Cinnamon Sugar, baked

    for the doughnuts:
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 c. milk
    1 beaten egg

    for a topping:
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. sugar
    6 tbsp. melted butter

    Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
    for the doughnuts:
    Cream together the shortening and sugar.
    Sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg together. Set aside.
    Mix together the milk and egg.
    Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternating with the wet mixture until a dough is formed.
    Roll the dough out on a floured surface.
    Cut out with a doughnut cutter.
    Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20 - 30 minutes.

    for topping:
    Mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
    Dip the doughnuts in the butter and then dip in the cinnamon mixture.
