1, 10 ounce package refrigerated pizza dough
1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1, 8 ounce container pizza sauce
1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
2 slices bacon, crisp-cooked, drained, and cut up
1 cup shredded cheddar or American cheese (4 ounces)
Unroll pizza dough according to package directions.
Place on a greased baking sheet. Build up edges slightly.
Bake at 425 degrees F. for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion until meat
is brown and onion is tender. Drain well.
Spread pizza sauce over hot crust. Sprinkle with ground beef mixture.
Top with tomato slices and bacon pieces. Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake about 10 minutes more or until cheese is melted and sauce is bubbly.
Cut into 12 pieces for appetizers or into 4 for regular size serving.
Dietary Exchanges: 2 starch, 1 vegetable, 2 lean meat, 2 fat.
Test Kitchen Tip: These recipes call for "ground beef" because that's how
the meat is labeled. However, on their grocery lists, most folks usually write
"hamburger," a term that refers to ground-up beef that's sold in bulk or in
patties. To reduce the fat in cooking select ground beef that is labeled 90
percent or more lean. In dishes such as this pizza where the beef is flavored
with other ingredients or is a part of a mixture, you'll never miss the extra fat.
