    Pork Chops, San Francisco style

    4 pork chops - 3/4 inch thick, trimmed
    1 Tablespoon oil
    1 minced garlic clove
    2 teaspoons Olive oil
    4 Tablespoons dry sherry
    4 Tablespoons soy sauce
    2 Tablespoons brown sugar
    1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
    2 teaspoons cornstarch
    2 Tablespoons water

    Brown chops in oil in skillet. Remove from pan.
    Add garlic and saute.
    Place chops back into pan.
    Combine the rest of ingredients except for cornstarch
    and water, and pour over chops.
    Cover and simmer for 30 - 35 minutes.
    Add 2 Tablespoons water if necessary. Turn once.
    Remove chops to platter.
    Mix cornstarch and water together and stir into sauce
    in pan. Simmer to thicken and pour over chops.
    Makes 4 servings.
