Sauerkraut, Sausage + Dumplings

2, 16 ounce cans sauerkraut (or more if larege group)
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
1 apple, cut in quarters
1 1/2 pounds sausage, cut in chunks
for dumplings:
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
Mix sauerkraut, brown sugar, caraway seeds, and apple together in
in a bakding dish. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes.
Add sausage and bake, covered, for 10 minutes or 30 minutes,
if you don't add dumplings.
Mix dumpling ingredients together.
Drop on top of sausage and sauerkraut and bake 10 minutes, uncovered.
Cover again and bake an additional 10 minutes.
Remove apple before serving.
