    Bagel Bread Pudding*

    Bagel Bread Pudding*

    2 cups milk
    1/4 cup butter
    5 plain bagels, cut into pieces, or 4 1/2 cups dry
    ...bread cubes - I prefer the bagels
    1 1/2 cups granulated white sugar
    1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 Tablespoon vanilla
    3 slightly beaten eggs
    1 cup chopped apples, optional
    1/2 cup raisins, optional

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
    BUTTER a 9x9x2 inch baking dish.
    Scald milk, add butter and pour over bread pieces.
    Let soak for about 5 minutes.
    Stir together sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.
    Add the fruit to the sugar mixture. Add to cube mixture.
    Mix l i g h t l y.
    Pour into baking dish.
    Place dish into a pan that is larger than it. Add hot water
    in the pan so that it comes up the sides of dish about 3/4 inch.
    Bake for 45 minutes to hour, or until a sharp knife inserted
    in center comes out clean.
    Makes 8 servings.

    Yummy! The apples and raisins will make it a bit sweeter
    but it is delicious. I make it plain most of the time.
