The truth is that both are actually red/orange.
Spanish rice is also made with tomato sauce or paste.
Mexican version has cumin, bell pepper, onions, and chicken stock
whereas the Spanish version does not add cumin but insteads has
saffron. Saffron turns the rice a red/orange color.
For yellow rice, use turmeric.
For green rice, use dill weed.
For red rice, tomatoes and or tomato sauce.

A quick and easy side dish. I do not add any salt to my dishes,
you may want to add a pinch to the water/tomato sauce mixture,
it's up to you.
Spanish/Mexican Rice #3, quick
1 cup instant rice
1, 8 ounce can crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
1/4 cup corn , frozen is fine, just thaw first
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons cumin powder
Fill measuring cup with 2/3 cup of crushed tomatos.
Add water to equal just a little over 1 cup.
In med.saucepan, bring tomato/water mixture to boil.
Stir in rice, corn, chili powder and cumin.
Cover. Remove from heat and let set 5 minutes, until liquids
have been absorbed Fluff with fork and serve.
Makes 2 servings.
