German Red Cabbage with Apple

List of Ingredients
2 lb. red cabbage, cut into small strips
2 diced onions
2 tbsp. butter or lard
1/2 pint red wine
2 tbsp. vinegar
6 juniper berries
1 bay leaf
3 cloves
salt
pepper
2 tbsp. honey, red current jelly or cranberry comp�te
2 thinly sliced apples
some flour

Melt butter/lard in a large, heavy saucepan.
Add onions and fry until golden brown.
Then add cabbage and cook gently.
Stir in red wine, vinegar, juniper berries, cloves, bay leaf, salt and pepper to taste.
Cover and cook over medium heat for approximately 45 minutes.
Add honey/red current jelly/cranberry comp�te.
Dust apple slices with flour, then fry in butter until golden brown.
Serve with German Meatballs with Oranges.
