Old Time Fried Tomatoes

tomatoes, peeled and sliced
salt and pepper
breadcrumbs (from grated bread)
butter
1 - 2 onions, minced fine
Recipe
Select large, ripe tomatoes.
Take the skin off and cut them in thick slices.
Season with salt and pepper.
Pour breadcrumbs on a plate and dip each side, making as much of the crumbs attach to tomatoes as possible.
Heat butter and brown tomatoes on each side. Set aside.
Fry onion in drippings left from frying tomatoes.
Pour onions over tomatoes and serve hot.
