Rutabaga + Apple Whip

Rutabaga + Apple Whip
4 pounds rutabagas (white turnip), peeled and diced
4 medium tart apples, peeled, cored and quartered
6 Tablespoons butter, at room temperature
4 Tablespoons granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Cover rutabaga with boiling salted water.
Simmer covered for 15 minutes or until tender.
Add apples and continue cooking until apples are tender.
Drain if necessary.
Mash rutabaga and apples together.
Stir in butter and sugar.
Season with salt, pepper, and cardamom.
Whip until fluffy.
Serve with pork, ham or poultry.
