    Source of Recipe

The Australian Women's Weekly, Dec 2001

    Recipe Introduction

Sangria is essentially a combination of red wine, lemonade, fresh fruit and sometimes spirits (brandy, gin or vodka). It is part of Spanish folklore and is served often at parties in Spanish homes as well.

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/4 cup (60ml) orange juice
    • 1/4 cup caster sugar
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 4 whole cloves
    • 2 medium oranges, peeled, sliced thinly
    • 750ml red wine (such as shiraz)
    • 3 cups (750ml) lemonade

    Instructions

    1. Heat juice, sugar, cinnamon and cloves in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Pour over orange slices in a large bowl or jug. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
    2. Remove cloves and cinnamon. Add wine to the orange mixture.
    3. Just before serving, add lemonade.
    4. Serve in wine glasses.

    Final Comments

You can use an inexpensive wine for this recipe.
