Streusel Coffee Cake

- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup Crisco
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 tsp baking powder

- INGREDIENTS FOR TOPPING

- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp melted butter
- 2 Tbsp flour
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 375 degrees.With electric mixer, beat (on low speed), sugar, Crisco and 1 egg.
- On low speed, gradually going to medium speed; add the milk, flour, baking powder and salt. Mix until well blended.
- Spread in a greased and floured 9" square or 11x7" pan.
- ***MAKE THE TOPPING AS FOLLOWS***
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour and cinnamon.
- In a small saucepan, melt 2 Tbsp. butter. Stir it into the dry ingredients till blended.
- Sprinkle the topping onto the batter in the pan.
- Take a rubber scraper or knife and work it into the dough, spreading it across. It's okay if some of the dough is not covered.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes or until it "smells" done. With a great nose like mine, this IS possible. Test it with a toothpick till it comes out clean.
- The coffee cake will be golden brown. Serve it warm.
Final Comments
You can add powdered sugar drizzle on it, if desired. Take some powdered sugar and milk, mix till it looks like glue, and drizzle over warm cake.
