SLICE AND BAKE COOKIES
Source of Recipe
An old family recipe.
Recipe Introduction
I'm not positive, but I think this is the one that my grandmother used.
List of Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 oz square unsweetened chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Cream sugar and shortening together, stir in egg yolk and vanilla.
- Combine flour, salt and baking powder. Stir alternately with milk into sugar mixture to make a soft dough.
- Divide dough in half. Add melted chocolate to one half and mix throroughly.
- On waxed paper, roll out each half into rectangles, 1/8" thick. Turn white dough onto chocolate dough. Remove waxed paper and roll up like a jelly roll.
- Wrap in waxed paper; refrigerate for up to one week if you don't want to make them all at once.
- Slice the dough into 1/8 or 1/4" thick slices. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on the thickness.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
