    Recipe Introduction

This is a recipe my mother-in-law used and taught to my wife when she was a child. It has a homemade bread smell that fills the house and a wonderful taste and texture. Well worth the time and effort

    List of Ingredients

    1 cake of Yeast
    1 Tablespoon Sugar
1/4 cup of milk, scalded and cooled
    4 cups sifted flour
    3 Tablespoons Butter
    1/4 cup of Sugar
    1 teaspoon of Salt
    1 Egg beaten
    1/2 teaspoon of Lemon extract

    Recipe

Dissolve yeast and 1 Tablespoon of sugar in lukewarm water. Add milk and enough flour to make a sponge. (About 1 1/2 cups)
Beat until perfectly smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place free from draft until light, about 45 minutes. Cream butter, sugar, and salt together and add to the yeast mixture.
Add egg, flavoring, and the remainder of the flour.
    Knead until smooth
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and set in a warm place, free from drafts.
Let rise until it is doubled in bulk, (About 1 hour)
Turn it out on a floured board and shape it into rolls or in a fancy twist. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise again for about 1 hour.
Bake in a hot oven at 425 degrees F for about 15 min.

    Yields about 3 dozen rolls.
