Buttermilk Biscuits

2/3 cup chilled buttermilk
1 egg
2 ½ cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
¼ tsp. salt
½ cup Crisco, cold and cut into small pieces
7 Tbs. butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Recipe
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Whisk egg and buttermilk until blended. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar and salt to blend. Cut in Crisco and butter to flour mixture until it resembles a coarse meal. Add milk mixture to flour mixture. Mix just until a soft dough forms. Using floured hands, gently knead just until the dough holds together. Roll out gently. Fold over twice. Repeat. Then roll out gently until the dough is ¾ inch thick. Cut. Put on an ungreased pan with the edges barely touching. Bake until puffed and golden brown, approx. 12 minutes.
