    DUTCH ALMOND CAKE

    FILLING:
    3/4 - 1 lb. almond paste, at room temp.
    1 cup sugar
    2 eggs, at room temperature

    CAKE:
    1 lb. (4 sticks) Imperial margarine, at room temp.
    1 3/4 cups sugar
    2 eggs, at room temperature
    3 cups flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder

    FILLING:
    Chop or grate almond paste. Place in mixing bowl. Add sugar and eggs. Thoroughly mix.

    CAKE:
    Cream marg., sugar, and eggs. Blend well. Stir together dry ingredients. Add to margarine mixture. Batter will be thick.

    Grease 8 x 13 (or 9 x 13, works well, too) pan. Spread 1/2 cake batter on bottom. Use spatula or clean hands. Spread filling over cake batter. Top with remaining cake batter.

    Bake at 350ºF for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
