Mama Dip's Chocolate Pound Cake

1/4 cup shortening
2 sticks butter, softened
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla extractRecipe
Preheat oven to 350�F. Cream the shortening, butter, and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating for 1 minute after each addition. Measure the flour and sift it together with the cocoa and baking powder. Sift again. Mix the buttermilk and vanilla together in a cup. Add to the creamed mixture, alternating with the dry ingredients, in thirds. Mix gently just until well blended. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake for about 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serves 12.
