List of Ingredients
Cobblers- hide a fruit filling under a sugared biscuit topping. Some say the biscuits resemble cobblestones; others think it's named for the way clever cooks cobbled together a few common staples for memorable results.
Crisps- These come topped with a crunchy mixture made from butter cut into flour, sugar, spices and often oatmeal.
Crumble- Has the same sort of crumbly topping, minus the oatmeal.
Buckles- Strewn with berries and a streusel topping, these cake-like desserts have an uneven buckled top layer.
Betty- The fruit is tipped or layered with soft, buttery bread crumbs.
Slump or Grunt- A combination of fruit and a biscuit topping. The way the dessert sort of slouches in the bowl could well have inspired its name.
The difference between a slump and a cobbler is minimal. A cobbler always has its characteristic sugared top.
