    Spritely Apples Almondine

    2 packages crescent rolls
    2 Granny Smith apples
    8 ounces Take Control margarine
    2 cups Splenda, divided
    1 teaspoon Saigon cinnamon,divided
    1 teaspoon almond extract
    10-oz. Diet Sprite
    1/2 cup sliced almonds

    Recipe



    Peel apple and slice into 8 sections. Separate crescent rolls and roll 1 apple slice in each. Pinch seams together. Place point side down in a 9x13-inch buttered or sprayed baking dish. Melt margarine, add 1 1/2 cups of Splenda, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, almond extract, and Diet Sprite. Stir well and pour over rolls. Combine remaining 1/2 cup of Splenda and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle on top. Sprinkle with sliced almonds. Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes, or until well browned.

    Serve warm with a little ice cream on top. If you want Almond Ice Cream, slightly soften 1 pint of sugar free vanilla ice cream. Stir in 3/4 teaspoon of almond extract. Refreeze until firm. Serve on top of the warm Apple Dessert. Sprinkle each serving with 1 or 2 teaspoons of toasted sliced almonds.

    Posted by: casf_or_Carol_IN: Spritely Apples - another version - see what you think. The first recipe I saw for baking apples in crescent rolls was the Country French Apple Crescent Casserole. It had milk and eggs and almonds in it. Carol

    This can be halved easily. Use an 8 x 8 pan.
