    Hackfleisch Auflauf (HAMBURGER CASSEROLE)

    List of Ingredients

    1 lb. hamburger
    1 red or green bell pepper
    2 cloves garlic, finely minced
    1/2 lb. mushrooms
    1/2 T. caraway seeds
    1-1/2 c. water
    1 onion, finely chopped
    dash salt, dash pepper, dash paprika
    1 pkg brown gravy mix
    1 c. shredded mozzarella cheese

    Recipe

    In a large skillet, brown the hamburger and strain the grease. Cut washed mushrooms and bell pepper into slices and brown with the hamburger over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, caraway seeds and paprika. Fold in the diced onion and the finely minced garlic cloves. Add water, bring to a boil, and blend in brown gravy mix. Put into a casserole dish, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and bake in a 350ºF oven for about 15 minutes.

    Grandma's Tip: If desired, combine the meat with several other vegetables, like chopped carrots, diced tomatoes, chopped celery, or green onions. Serve with rice, noodles, or boiled potatoes. Yield: 4 servings
