My Momma's Cinnamon Redhot Apples

Posted by: starshineeliz: These are so good! But another dish I think maybe goes better on the dessert table! Next time, I'm going to cut them in slices like you do fried apples and cook them that way. If you add a little red food coloring, as the recipe says, it makes a beautiful deep red side dish that is very visually impressive.
List of Ingredients
8-10 medium apples, peeled, cored and halved
3-4 cups water
3/4-1 cup sugar (may need additional)
1/2-3/4 cup red hots (may need additonal)
red food coloring (to make to deep red color)
Recipe
In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, red hots and food coloring. Bring to a boil. Add some of the apples that have been prepared. Bring the liquid back to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cook the apples until almost tender. As they finish cooking, remove to a dish, and continue with remaining apples. You may have to add additional ingredients, depending upon size and quantity of apples. When finished, boil down the liquid until thick and syrupy, pour over the apples and chill for several hours or overnight.
