    This recipe is originally from a 1916 Campbell's cookbook and was the first cookbook to incorporate canned soup as an ingredient.

    List of Ingredients




    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed mushroom soup, divided
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    2 lbs. ground beef
    1/3 c. finely chopped onion
    1/2 c. fine dry breadcrumbs
    1 tsp. Salt
    1/3 c. water

    Recipe



    Mix thoroughly 1/2 c. soup, beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion and salt. Shape firmly into loaf (8x4 inch); place in a shallow baking pan, Bake at 375ºF for 1 hour, 15 minutes. In saucepan, blend remaining soup, water, and 2-3 Tbsp pan drippings. Heat; stir occasionally. Serve with loaf. Makes 6-8 servings. posted by Rachael_IN
