    8 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
    1 cup apple juice
    1 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    Recipe



    Cook diced apple and juice in a Dutch oven over medium heat until apple is tender. Stir until apple is mashed. Stir in sugar and cinnamon. Pour apple mixture into a lightly greased 11x7-inch baking dish.

    Bake at 275ºF for 4 1/2 hours, stirring every hour, or until spreading consistency. Cover and chill.

    Yield: 3 cups
    Prep: 25 min. /Cook: 30 min. /Bake: 4 hours, 30 min.

    For Spiced Oven Apple Butter: Increase cinnamon to 2 teaspoon and add 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves and 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice.

    Review Posted by: GrandmaCookN: I have tried this one. It is good. I did increase the cinnamon, added some allspice but no cloves. My MIL liked a chunky applesauce so did not mash mine until it had been in the oven awhile the second time it was made. Oh and also used apple cider the second time. We liked that better however the juice will make a milder apple butter.
