Mom's Broccoli Cheese Soup

1 medium onion -- diced
26 ounces chicken broth
2 packages broccoli spears, frozen
3 carrot -- shredded
1 1/2 cups egg noodles
3 cups skim milk
garlic powder -- to taste
1 pound Velveeta Light -- cubed
Recipe
Saute onion in butter. Add broth and bring to a boil. Add broccoli and carrots. When mixture returns to a boil, add the egg noodles. Boil 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add milk, garlic powder, and cheese. Heat till cheese is melted and well stirred into soup; do not boil.
This will thicken when stored overnight; add more milk or a little wine if desired.
