Slow-Cooker Pea Soup

"This slow-cooker soup is one of my favorite meals to make during a busy workweek," pens Deanna Waggy of South Bend, IN. "When I get home, I just add the milk...and supper is served."
List of Ingredients
1 pkg. (16 oz.) dried split peas
2 c. cubed fully cooked ham
1 c. diced carrots
1 med. onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
5 c. boiling water
1 c. hot milkRecipe
In a 5-qt. slow cooker, layer the first nine ingredients in order listed (do not stir). Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until vegetables are tender. Stir in milk. Discard bay leaves before serving. Yield: 9 servings.
