    Spartan Split Pea Package

    Recipe Introduction


    Before cooking always examine, sort, and rinse well to assure maximum wholesomeness of this natural product. Peas require no soaking. In a large pot, for each pound of peas (about 2 cups) add 6-8 cups hot water. Simmer gently with lid tilted until desired tenderness is reached, about 20-30 minutes.

    List of Ingredients




    16 oz. pkg. Spartan green split peas
    3 qts. water
    1 small ham shank
    1 large onion, finely chopped
    2 chicken bouillon cubes or 2 tbsp. instant bouillon
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1/2 tsp. oregano leaves
    1/4-1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 bay leaf
    1 1/2 c. thinly sliced carrots
    1 c. chopped celery

    Recipe



    In large deep pot, combine peas, water, ham shank, onion, chicken bouillon and seasonings. Simmer uncovered 1 1/2 hours. Remove ham shank; trim meat off bone and return meat to pot. Stir in carrots and celery. Simmer uncovered, an additional 2-2 1/2 hours or until soup reaches desired thickness. 6 (1 1/2 cup) servings.
