    Cold Oven Pound Cake

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 C. shortening
    2 sticks butter or margarine
    3 C. sugar
    1/4 t. salt
    5 large eggs
    1 C. evaporated milk
    3 C. flour
    1 1/2 T. vanilla or orange extract

    Recipe

    Cream first four ingredients very well. Add eggs 1 at a time and blend well after each egg. Add flour alternately with the milk mixing to combine after each addition. Mix in flavoring. Turn into a greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Put in a COLD oven set to 325*. Bake approx. 1 1/2 hours. Do not open the oven door for at least the first hour. Cake is done when toothpick comes out clean and or cake is beginning to pull away from the sides. Cool in pan for 10-15 minutes before turning out to finish cooling.
    The flavor developes best when made the day before serving.
