French Onion Soup

List of Ingredients
- 5 cups thin sliced yellow onions
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 1 Tbsp oil
- 1 Tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 2 quarts (4-5 cans) beef broth
- 1/2 cup white wine
- shredded gruyere or emmenthaler cheese
- french bread
Instructions
- Cook onions in butter and oil, covered, 15 minutes
- Add salt and sugar, uncover, and cook 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep golden brown
- Warm Beef Broth in large soup pot
- Add flour to onions (gloppy mixture), and slowly add onion mix to broth
- Add wine, and simmer 30-40 minutes
- Put in small crocks with toasted crouton (sliced french bread) and sprinkled cheese, and bake at 325 for 1/2 hour
Final Comments
Takes a while to make, but worth it!
