    List of Ingredients


    • 5 cups thin sliced yellow onions
    • 3 Tbsp butter
    • 1 Tbsp oil
    • 1 Tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp sugar
    • 3 Tbsp flour
    • 2 quarts (4-5 cans) beef broth
    • 1/2 cup white wine
    • shredded gruyere or emmenthaler cheese
    • french bread


    Instructions


    1. Cook onions in butter and oil, covered, 15 minutes
    2. Add salt and sugar, uncover, and cook 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep golden brown

    3. Warm Beef Broth in large soup pot
    4. Add flour to onions (gloppy mixture), and slowly add onion mix to broth
    5. Add wine, and simmer 30-40 minutes
    6. Put in small crocks with toasted crouton (sliced french bread) and sprinkled cheese, and bake at 325 for 1/2 hour

    Takes a while to make, but worth it!
