    Cinnamon Baked French Toast

    Source of Recipe

    Adapted from internet recipe

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 loaf of stale French or Italian Bread
    • 8 whole large eggs
    • 2 1/2 cups 1/2 and 1/2
    • 3/4 cup date palm sugar
    • 2 Tbl vanilla extract
    • 2 heaping tsp ground cinnamon (divided)
    • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter

    Instructions

    1. Spray 9x13" baking dish with vegetable coating. Slice bread into thick slices or tear into large chunks and put into prepared pan.
    2. In a large mixing bowl beat eggs until yolks and whites are blended. Add 1/2 and 1/2, date palm sugar and 1 heaping teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir well to combine.
    3. Pour egg mixture over bread. Make sure all of the bread is covered with the egg mixture. Cover dish with foil or plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
    4. In a medium mixing bowl mix flour, brown sugar, salt and remaining cinnamon. Cut cold butter into small pieces and add to flour and sugar mixture.
    5. Cut cold butter pieces into the flour and sugar mixture until the mixture resembles small pebbles or peas. Cover this mixture and refrigerate until it's time to bake the French toast.
    6. One-half hour before time to bake remove bread and egg mixture from refrigerator. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
    7. Uncover the prepared French toast and sprinkle the flour and brown sugar mixture evenly over the top of the bread.
    8. Bake, uncovered, in pre-heated 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
    9. Serve with pure grade B maple syrup.
