    Gram's Soft Molasses Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    My Grandmother

    Recipe Introduction

Cookie jar memories from Grandma's farm kitchen

    List of Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup softened butter (no substitutes)
    • 1/2 cup Crisco shortening
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • 4 cups unbleached flour
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
    • 2 1/2 tsp ginger
    • 1 tsp ground cloves
    • 2 tsp cinnamon
    • Extra white sugar

    Instructions

    1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. Measure dry ingredients into a crock and mix with a fork to blend. Set aside.
    3. Cream butter, Crisco, white and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add molasses and eggs and mix well.
    4. Mix in dry ingredients, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    5. Use a 1 Tbl. sized scoop to place cookies onto a non-stick Air-bake cookie sheet. Place cookies approx. 2" apart and sprinkle some white sugar on top of each cookie mound.
    6. Bake for 11 minutes. Do not overbake or cookies will be hard. Remove from oven and let cookies rest on baking sheet for at least one minute before removing to a wire rack to cool.
    7. Store in a cookie tin. Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
