Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Cut three rounds of wax paper to fit into the bottoms of three 8" round cake pans. Butter and flour sides and wax paper covered bottoms of pans. Shake out excess flour.
- Make cake according to package directons. (Use whole eggs instead of just the three egg whites normally called for in a white cake mix)
- Divide batter between the three pans. Bake 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the center of cake comes out clean.
- Remove to rack and cool in pans 10 minutes. Invert cake layers onto cooling rack and cool completely.
- FILLING: Combine cream cheese, sour cream, whipping cream, powdered sugar and coffee flavored liqueur until well blended. Cover and chill until trifle is assembled.
- TOPPING: Whip cream with powdered sugar and coffee flavored liqueur until mixture is stiff. Cover and chill until trifle is assembled.
- ASSEMBLY: For prettiest presentation use trifle bowl 8" across and 5-6" deep.
- Place first cake layer into bottom of bowl. Use a thin wooden or metal skewer to poke holes through cake layer, spacing about 1" apart. Make holes all over the layer.
- Mix 1/4 cup cold, strong brewed coffee and 1 Tbl coffee flavored liqueur. Pour over cake.
- Cover with 1/2 of filling mixture. Sprinkle with a thin layer of grated semi-sweet baking chocolate.
- Repeat with layer #2.
- Place top layer into tirfle bowl. Poke holes 1" appart into top layer. Mix 1/4 cup cold strong coffee and 1 Tbl coffee flavored liqueur and pour over top layer just as has been done with previous two layers.
- Top with whipped cream topping mixture.
- Put some cocoa powder into a fine mesh sieve and shake cocoa powder over the whipped cream topping.
- Garnish with dark and white chocolate curls.
