Bran Muffins

List of Ingredients
3 c sugar (may use 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar
1 c vegetable oil
2 c boiling water
6 c bran flakes or All Bran cereal (divided-see recipe)
1 qt buttermilk or sour milk (to make regular milk sour, add 1 Tbsp vinegar and stir well)
5 c flour
5 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Recipe
Mix the sugar and vegatable oil together and set aside. Mix 2 cups of the cereal into the boiling water, stir well. Set aside for approximately 10 minutes. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt and set aside. Add half of the sour milk to the sugar/oil mixture. Stir well. Add 1/2 the water/cereal mixture. Stir well. Add 1/2 the flour. Stir well. Then add ALL the rest together. Stir well. Add 4 cups more dry bran flakes. Stir. Makes 1 gallon mix. Bake at 350 degrees, 10-15 minutes in greased muffin pans. Store covered in refrigerator up to 4 weeks. Tastes best if you let it sit for awhile before you bake the first batch.
