    Baking Powder Biscuits

    List of Ingredients

2 cups flour (can substitute 1 cup cornmeal)
    2-1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tbsp. sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    3/4 cup milk or buttermilk

    Recipe

I have to give credit to TerryTX for these cause she's been so very nice to send me the GoldMedal recipe booklet as GoldMedal flour isn't available in Germany.I like them because they always rise though I never handle the dough very carefully.I personally find that sharp biscuit cutters are very useful when making these.

    Directions:
Put flour and other dry ingredients into food processor fitted with metal blade.Add shortening in chunks, process until shortening is about pea-sized.Turn into bowl and add milk.Stir with fork until soft dough forms, turn out onto floured surface and knead a couple times to make dough sticking together.Roll out about 3/4 inch thick and cut with biscuit cutter.Brush with milk or egg wash if desired.Bake in a preheated 425° oven for 12-15 minutes.

    Notes:
Add grated cheese (1/2 cup) or some spices (rosemary is fine) to them.
You may mix everything but milk a couple days in prior, put in bags and label. When you need biscuits pour one bag into bowl and follow recipe directions.
