Schinkenfleckerln (Ham and Noodle Gratin

10 oz. wide egg noodles
optional:one ham bone
8 oz. cooked ham
1 onion, diced
2 tbsp. butter
Sauce:
3 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. salt
pepper
2 oz. butter,cut in small piecesRecipe
I like almost any kind of casserole.This one is typical for Austria and it's actually made with fresh noodle dough so if you have too much time it'll be worth it.I will try to develope a lower fat version soon.
Directions:
Boil water with ham bone for about 1 hour.If you don't use the bone use salt-water for noodles.
Break noodles into pieces, as thick as wide.Boil according to package directions.Drain.
Sautee onion in butter, mix with ham (cut in small pieces) and noodles.
Stir together sauce ingredients except butter, mix with noodle-mix.Pour in a greased casserole dish.Top with butter flakes.
Bake in a preheated 400° oven for 35-40 minutes, cover top with foil if it browns too fast.
Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
