When my father died, I found my grandmother's and mother's recipe books. I think it would be a shame not to share the recipes, many of which I remember enjoying in younger days.
They come from Clitheroe in Lancashire, UK. Those from my grandmother will date back to the 1920s; those from my mother to the 1950s. None have been published before.
Many of them are for cakes and biscuits, some for chutneys and jams, and a few for home-made wine. The wine recipes are a surprise, as my grandmother was apparently a devout methodist!
Many of my grandmother's recipes are without precise baking instructions: I expect she imagined people were used to cooking.
I hope you enjoy at least some of these.
