Recipe Introduction
Had some pears on hand that needed to be used up before they went bad, so I experimented and came up with this pie recipe. It makes enough for two pies, so just cut in half in you only want one. When I go through the trouble of making pies, I like to make one for eatin' and one for freezin'
List of Ingredients
8 cups peeled, cored and sliced fresh pears
2 cups peeled, cored and sliced fresh apples
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup tapioca
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground mace
2 tablespoons butter
pastry for 2 double crust pies
Recipe
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine all ingredients (except for last two) and set aside for 15 minutes (I let it set while preparing the pie pans.) Spoon equally between two pastry lined pie pans. Dot with butter and top with crust. Crimp edges to seal and slit top to let steam escape. Bake for 1 hour. Let cool 1 hour before cutting. Scrumptious as it is, I'll bet it is even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. ;)
