Turkey-In-A-Bag
[from "Not Martha" newsletter] Our family recipe, "Turkey in a Bag," makes the most perfect moist turkey you've ever had, and it's remarkably easy -- perfect for my first turkey-cooking as a married woman.
List of Ingredients
- TURKEY (up to 20 lbs. Cooking time not dependent on weight of turkey)
- Plain brown shopping bag (preferably NOT made from recycled goods)
- Jar of Crisco (OR-4 sticks of butter, melted)
- Cooking rack
- Turkey pan
- 450º oven
Instructions
- Using the Crisco™, grease both sides of bag, inside and out. (OR-place melted butter inside of bag, swish about untill throughly soaked thru)
- Stuff and Truss Turkey
- Place prepared Turkey inside bag
- Staple bag securely shut
- Position Turkey on cooking rack, placed in pan
- Quickly place turkey inside oven so you don't lose heat. Be sure top of bag doesn't touch top oven coils. (fire hazard!)
- Cook at 450 degrees for ninety minutes.
- Turn temperature DOWN to 350º degrees, continue to cook for ninety minutes more.
- DO NOT open oven during cooking!
