Pastry:
3 oz cream cheese -- softened
1/2 cup butter -- softened
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Filling:
1 egg
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter -- softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 dash salt
2/3 cup pecans or walnuts -- chopped
Pastry:
Cream together the cream cheese and butter. Stir in the flour and salt. Blend well and chill.
Filling:
Beat together the egg, brown sugar, butter, vanilla and salt. Stir in nuts.
Form 1" balls of pastry dough. Press one ball into each well of a non-stick or greased mini-muffin pan to form a miniature tart shell. Fill each tart shell with between1/2 and 3/4 teaspoon of the nut mixture. Bake at 325f for 25 minutes or until crust is lightly golden. Remove to a cooling rack. Store air-tight. Each batch makes 20 Tassies.
