For The Bars:
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter or regular margarine
1 cup baking cocoa
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract
1 cup chopped marachino cherries
1/2 cup chopped nuts
For The Icing:
1/4 cup butter or regular margarine, softened
1 tsp vnailla extract
2 cups confectioners sugar
6 tbsp baking cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup chopped nuts
Recipe
Heat oven to 350 F.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In
a large saucepan, melt butter. Remove from heat and
stir in cocoa until smooth. Blend in eggs, sugar, and
the extracts. Stir in flour mixture, cherries, and the
nuts.
Pour into a greased and flour 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes or until a toothpick
inserted near the center comes clean.
For the icing, blend butter, vanilla, sugar, cocoa,
and milk until smooth. Spread over warm bars. Sprinkle
with nuts.
Yield: 3 dozen bars
