    Southern Style Cornbread

    Source of Recipe

    The New Homemaker

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups self rising cornmeal
    1 cup self rising flour
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    1 egg
    3/4 cup buttermilk

    Recipe

Grease wedge-shaped iron skillet and dust it lightly with cornmeal.
    Sift cornmeal and flour together.
Add oil, egg, and buttermilk and mix well, until smooth--no lumps!
Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes or to a nice golden brown.
This is my great aunt's recipe. It's a good old-fashioned, melt in your mouth addition to any meal. The southern distinction is the exclusion of sugar. No self respecting Southerner puts sugar in the cornbread!
